Alex tackling Soup Bowl on the Rubicon Trail

Customer Profile: Alex Boelts’ Trail-Built 1995 FZJ80 Land Cruiser

Seven Years of Building a Real Trail Rig

Some builds are made for parking lots. Others are built to survive years of real trail abuse, recoveries, road trips, and late nights in the garage. Alex Boelts’ 1995 FZJ80 Land Cruiser falls firmly into the second category.

This triple locked 80 Series has been evolving for the last seven years into a seriously capable trail rig that still carries the unmistakable soul of a classic Land Cruiser. From Moab to the Rubicon and all over Nevada and California, this thing has seen the kind of terrain most rigs only talk about online.

And recently, Alex wrapped up the interior with our Rugged Overland Caballo Classic Front Bucket Seats in Cashew Diamond Stitch.

The result fits the truck perfectly. Classic Toyota vibes with just enough refinement to make you forget how much abuse the rest of the truck is willing to take.

The Build

Alex started with a 1995 FZJ80 and transformed it into a purpose-built wheeler with modifications focused on capability, reliability, and real trail performance.

Just a few of the Highlights include:

  • Factory triple locked
  • Gear box doubler
  • Fabricated front axle assembly
  • Custom 3-link front suspension
  • King Coil overs

This is not a build that happened overnight. It is the product of years spent wheeling, improving weak points, and building a Land Cruiser that could confidently tackle some of the toughest trails in the western United States.

According to Alex:

“It goes everywhere.”

Honestly, after seeing the photos, we believe him.

Trails That Earned Their Scratches

Alex’s 80 has tackled:

  • Multiple trips through Moab
  • Several runs across the Rubicon Trail
  • Moon Rocks outside Reno
  • Countless Nevada and California trails

The best part about this build is that it still looks used in the right way. Rock rash, dirt, flexed suspension, and trail photos that prove the truck actually gets out there. That is exactly the kind of rig we love seeing our products installed in.

The Interior Upgrade

The Cashew Diamond Stitch seats completely changed the feel of the cabin while still matching the personality of the truck.

Instead of looking overly modern or out of place, the warm tones and classic stitching feel right at home inside the 80 Series interior. Comfortable enough for long highway miles to the trailhead and supportive enough for technical crawling days that seem to never end.

Seeing these seats installed in a properly built trail rig is exactly why we created this kit in the first place. Something that feels premium without losing the rugged character that makes these trucks special.

Built to Be Used

One thing we appreciate about Alex’s Cruiser is that it represents what so many Land Cruiser owners love about the platform. It is capable, functional, constantly evolving, and actually driven where it belongs.

No trailer queen energy here.

Just a seriously well-built 80 Series that gets used the way Toyota intended.
